Submission Guidelines

Do you have high quality stock photos that can attract publishers of printed or digital media? Become a member, submit your images to the site, and start showcasing your photos today.

Once you register, go to the Photographers Area, where you can use the Upload Files option.

But before that, please make sure you are familiar with what we are looking for.

Before uploading a file you must make sure the following criteria are met:

Basic Guidelines

Image must be your personal work
Image must be 5MP in size or more
Image must be RGB, saved at the highest JPG quality
Don't increase your photo quality using a S/W.
Don't sharpen or edit photos (unless it comes under the "Creative" section) or add copyright information, signature, name, borders on photos
Don't upload offensive content like explicit nudes, drugs, people in offensive positions, racism. (Artistic nudes are OK)
Add in description, the Resolution and the type of Release (See below)
Add a relevant description to your image. It must be more then one word and explain the image.
No all caps in title, description, keywords etc.

Photos for Editorial Use (Any image with people or copyrighted materials for which you don't have the Model Release comes under this section)

Add in Description that it is for Editorial Use Only
Some buildings are protected by a trademark (eg., Empire State Building), new sculptures, cars like Ferrari and Porsche, Harley Davidson motorcycles, the Coca-Cola bottle, the Olympic logo circles. These photos come under Editorial Use only. Mark it as such.

Photos under Model Release (When you have a Model Release for all people recognizable in your image)

Add in Description that you have the Model Release.
Check the image carefully for copyright issues, anything that is label, logo, characters from cartoons or movies, are protected and are not accepted unless you have the necessary Releases. Else it can be used only for Editorial Use.
Sent us the model releases by email. Filename of the MR must be made of letters and numbers, no special characters.

Resolution
Minimum: 5 Mega Pixels; Clear Images!

The more pixels your images have, the better quality can be achieved when printing large sizes. Submitting small files having low pixel count means that you will be losing majority of potential buyers interested in printing. If you are serious about selling your work, submit high-resolution files, preferably having at least 4 million pixels.

We strongly encourage all members to upload files in the highest resolution possible, so that buyers are able to download high-resolution photos right after payment. If you submit small or medium resolution files, and simply mention that high-resolution files are available, you will greatly reduce the likelihood or selling them.

Subject

Be clear about what you shoot, and submit!

If you are submitting photos with the similar subject as subject already found at StockPhotographs.org in large quantity, you are therefore reducing the visibility of your photo among other photos. Even though your photo may be more unique or more artistic than other photos, the likelihood of your photo being purchased may be low - the more similar photos exist, the less likely your photo will sell.

Keeping the above in mind, choose those subjects that are rare or lacking at the site, especially if you are targeting stock photo buyers who need images for commercial use. Comparing the sizes of different categories will give you a clear picture of their proportions. Please see the list and try to submit photos suitable for those that are smaller, not to overgrown ones.

Below you can find a list of subjects that are always needed by stock photo buyers, along with the ones that are not needed often (or StockPhotographs.org already has plenty of):

What's Hot

Business-related photos of people conducting business, business environment, equipment or attributes;

Photos of people getting involved in various activities (eating, dancing, building, smoking, fishing, driving, arguing, the list goes on);

Photos strongly conveying a certain message, theme, action or state (buy it online, don't drink and drive, quit smoking, etc.);

Photos sensitive to issues of gender, race, and other social groups;

Health and medical related photos (in the operating room, ambulance, X-ray department, doctor's office, etc);

Technology photos (chips, various equipment, fiber optics, lasers, etc.);

Specific or exaggerated characters, particularly those representative of different occupations, such as a nurse, a judge, a salesperson, a teacher, a driver, etc.;

Professional models and tasteful nudes;

Various objects on plain (ideally white or grayscale) backgrounds;

Professional ocean and underwater photography.

Religious subjects (all faiths);

What's Not

Dogs, cats and other household pets, or home aquarium photos;

Pictures of wild animals visibly taken at zoos or parks;

Sunsets, skies and clouds;

Flowers and plants, especially North American in origin;

Obscure, unrecognizable material;

Immediate family and friends photos;

Vacation and holiday photos.
